Is it ok to visit Scotland? – Update on Covid-19 as of 03/07/2020

WhattodoinEdinburgh are looking forward to welcoming guests from throughout the UK and as restrictions ease further, from around the world. You may find the daily updates from Boris Johnson in London and Nicola Sturgeon in Edinburgh, slightly confusing, so we hope we can help clarify some of the rules and give you “go to” sites for regularly updated information.

Scotland is currently in Phase 2 of the route map to get back to some form of normality with self-catering properties available to book as of today and the ability to visit second homes now permitted.

Whilst a number of outdoor attractions, such as zoos and public gardens opened earlier in the week, outdoor hospitality may open from July 6th providing they have sufficient physical distancing measures in place.

Please note that Face masks (currently mandatory on public transport in Scotland) will also be mandatory in shops as of the 10th of July.

It was announced yesterday that children aged 11 and under may now play outdoors with any number of friends with no physical distancing required.

Currently the 2 week quarantine for those arriving or returning to the UK is still in place, but as we understand it, this is under review at moment.

Edinburgh Zoo is currently open for visitors.

Other personal considerations before travelling

Insurance – Do not leave home without it! It is more important than ever that you have a suitable insurance policy and you know what you are covered for. If you are booking a non-refundable rate, then make sure that your policy covers you in the event you need to cancel.

Check your accommodation provider’s policies on cancellation, cleaning protocols and procedure in the event that you fall ill. The Scottish government and the ASSC have published a guideline for all self-caterers to ensure cleaning standards are met. Ask your provider if they are complying with these guidelines. Foreign Office/Airports – check your own country’s policies on exit and entry before planning a trip.
